About us

Prague Public Transit’s Tram Repair Shop has been in operation since January 1968. It underwent fundamental modernisation between 1995 and 2000. Today it is one of the most modern repair shops in Central Europe specialised in maintenance, repair and refurbishment of trams and tram parts. The Tram Repair Shop also modernises electrical machines and devices for traction vehicles, undercarriages (bogies) and car bodies for trams, and gearboxes and parts for rolling stock.

Our other missions and responsibilities include:

  • Performing welding work on rolling stock and its components
  • Within spare capacity, repairing, refurbishing and manufacturing standard and special rolling stock, including its components, and performing other licenced and authorised activities even for external organisations
  • Testing rolling stock and its components
  • Ensuring compliance of the quality management system with valid certificates
  • Approving and drafting designated system and technical documentation
  • Providing storage management

The international certification company DET NORSKE VERITAS was chosen already for the first certification.  Its first assignment at Prague Public Transit Inc. was to certify the then existing Elektrické dráhy (Electrical Rail Systems) branch according to Standard ISO 9002 for “Repairs and modernisation of electrical machines, gearboxes and axles for rolling stock”. It was the first ISO certificate to be granted in the Czech Republic in the area of public transport. Since 2012, the certification organisation LRQA (Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance) has been responsible for reviewing the Tram Repair Shop’s quality management system. The scope of the certification of the Tram Repair Shop’s quality management system encompasses the repair and modernisation of electrical machines and devices for traction vehicles, undercarriages (bogies) and car bodies for trams, and gearboxes and parts for rolling stock.
