From today at 10:00 a.m., trains on Metro Line B are once again stopping at Českomoravská station. The station has undergone an extensive 439-day modernisation, during which it was equipped with new technologies, facilities, and a completely new design across all levels – from the platforms to the street-level vestibule. This project marks the first modernisation of a Prague metro station to simultaneously address both the underground and above‑ground parts, including the external cladding. During the reconstruction, the station was stripped down to its original structural frame and underwent extensive structural repairs. The project included the replacement of escalators and ventilation systems, the installation of approximately 120 kilometres of cabling, and 1,600 new LED lights.
The most striking change can be seen on the platforms, where the original ceramic cladding has been replaced with glass panels featuring a graphic pattern designed by Maxim Velčovský and edit! architects. The walls of the central nave are decorated with 143 hand-made sintered glass panels. Each panel is unique thanks to a special production technique: during manufacturing, crushed glass was manually distributed between the layers, creating air bubbles of varying sizes after sintering. The glass panels were produced at Lasvit in Nový Bor, in cooperation with leading Czech glassmaking specialists.
The vestibule now features new suspended ceilings with LED lighting and a highly reflective glass façade that mirrors the original artwork. The exterior cladding consists of profilit glass in the lower section and glass fibre reinforced concrete panels in the upper section, designed by Qarta Architektura. The vestibule will be architecturally and structurally connected to a private development project, which will be built in the area between the tax office building, the station vestibule, and Ocelářská Street.
The modernisation also included the construction of new accessible toilets, accessible from Drahobejlova Street, and structural preparation for a future lift. The lift will be located at the front of the central platform nave, with construction planned to be coordinated with the upcoming private development project in the area.
