Škoda 52T goes into trial operation with passengers

17. 06. 2025

On Friday, 20 June 2025, the new Škoda 52T tram was put into service with passengers for the first time. It completed its first journey at 12:51 p.m. from the Lehovec turning point, as an inserted order for line no. 12, in the direction of Sídliště Barrandov. For the first phase of the operation without passengers, the Railway Authority of the Czech Republic had set a total of twenty thousand kilometres, homologation runs thus took place outside the timetable throughout the entire Prague network. From Friday, the tram will have to run the same number of kilometres, i.e. twenty thousand kilometres, as part of the trial operation with passengers.

The one-way, 100% low-floor Škoda 52T tram with a length of 32 meters and a weight of 48 tons is equipped with full-car air conditioning, LED lighting in the interior and exterior, and a modern information system consisting of six screens spread across the width of the aisle. The total capacity of the tram is up to 243 passengers, of which 70 are seated. Quick and convenient check-in of passengers is ensured by five double-winged doors.

During this summer, additional Škoda 52T trams will arrive in Prague, which will be used not only for tests but also for the training of female and male drivers of the Prague Public Transit Company. In addition to driving tests, a number of other type tests are also being conducted on the new tram, such as tests of electrotechnical components, for which tram no. 9504, delivered to Prague on 13 May 2025, is now being used. In the summer, this tram will be seen in the streets of Prague on test drives.
