DPP launches trial operation on trolleybus lines 51 and 53

26. 06. 2026

Prague, 26 June 2026 – Prague has two new trolleybus routes. Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has completed the construction of infrastructure for trolleybus lines No. 51 Bořislavka – Hradčanská and No. 53 Karlovo náměstí – Stadion Strahov as part of the projects to electrify former bus lines 131 and 176. Today, DPP launched trial passenger operation on both trolleybus lines.

Thanks to Line 51, trolleybuses are returning to the area where trolleybus operation first began in Prague 90 years ago. Line 53, in turn, restores trolleybus service to the area where it ceased in October 1972.

As part of these two investment projects, DPP built a total of more than 15 kilometres of overhead contact line for trolleybus power supply and battery charging (single-track length), two new traction substations and 451 traction poles, the vast majority of which also serve as public lighting poles.

The infrastructure for trolleybus line No. 51 was constructed by a consortium consisting of Elektroline and Elektrizace železnic Praha. The infrastructure for line No. 53 was built by Elektrizace železnic Praha.

The total construction costs of both projects amounted to CZK 616.53 million. Both projects for the electrification of bus lines 131 and 176 are co-financed by the European Union under the National Recovery Plan.
