8. Transit Inspection

  • Transit inspectors of the Prague Public Transport Company are authorised to perform inspection of adherence to Transport Terms of Service and the PIT Tariff in the operation of the metro, trams, the funicular and PIT buses. A transit inspector identifies himself with an inspector's badge belonging to the Prague Public Transport Company; upon request also with his company identification with photograph and number identical to the number of the inspector's badge.
  • The transit inspector has the right to request passengers to present their transit document at any time during transport or while they are in the transit area, as well as upon exit from a tram or bus, or while leaving the transit area. The passenger is not freed from the obligation to present the transit document even outside the vehicle, if he was requested to present it inside the vehicle or while exiting the vehicle or transit area.
  • In the event of a passenger travelling without a valid transit document, or upon other violation of the Transport Terms of Service, the transit inspector has the right to impose and collect the stipulated surcharge including the confiscation of an invalid transit ticket.
  • The transit inspector, in accordance with appropriate provisions of Act No. 266/1994 Coll., on Rail Systems, as amended, and Act No. 111/1994 Coll., on Road Transport, as amended, has the right to ascertain the personal data of a passenger listed on his personal ID issued by the relevant public authority.
  • A passenger that cannot produce a valid transit document pays the fare plus a surcharge of CZK 950. When paying on the spot or within a time period between 12:30 p.m. the next workday until the 15th day from imposition of the surcharge at a supplementary fee till of the Prague Public Transport Company, the surcharge is decreased to CZK 500.
  • If the passenger is the holder of a pass with personal data and with a validity period of a month or more, valid at the time of inspection, and he proves this fact in the time period between 12:30 p.m. the next work day until the 15th day from imposition of the surcharge at a location designated by the carrier, he pays a surcharge of CZK 50 (detailed conditions are stipulated by the PIT Tariff).
  • A passenger that cannot present a valid document regarding payment of a fare for the transport of luggage or a dog not being transported in a carrier per the PIT Tariff must pay transport fare per the PIT Tariff and a surcharge in the amount of CZK 200; when paying on the spot or within a time period between 12:30 p.m. the next work day until the 15th day from imposition of the surcharge at a supplementary fee till of the Prague Public Transport Company, the surcharge is decreased to CZK 100.
  • A passenger that, by violating the generally binding transport regulations or Transport Terms of Service, has disturbed the safety or flow of operation or has caused damage, pays a surcharge of CZK 400. This surcharge is not subject to reduction.
  • An authorized employee of the carrier issues to the passenger confirmation of surcharge payment (does not apply to supplementary ticket sales by the driver).
  • If a passenger produces a forged transit document (an imitation of a transit document), a changed or modified transit document, the surcharge is not subject to reduction. The surcharge cannot be paid on the spot. The surcharge is also not subject to reduction in cases of producing a transit document used by another person.
  • The transit inspector has the right to decide on the means of inspection of tariff conformance in order to maintain the flow and safety of operation.
  • If, in contravention of legal regulations, a passenger refuses to pay a surcharge to the transport fare per the PIT tariff, and refuses to produce personal identification, the authorised individual has the right to act in accordance with the generally binding transport regulations in order to ensure the carrier's rights are observed. In this case, the passenger is obliged to follow the transit inspector at his request to a public service location in order to ascertain his identity, or to remain where he is until the arrival of an individual authorised to ascertain his identity.
