Carbon footprint savings in the connection search engine

A new feature – calculation of carbon footprint savings when using public transport instead of a car – is included in the connection search engine on the website of the Prague Public Transit Company. Every journey carries a burden on the environment in the form of CO2 emissions, which contributes to global warming. Public transport is therefore a nature-friendly choice.

The CO2 savings (carbon footprint savings) for a given connection are based on the difference in carbon dioxide emissions between the journey by public transport and the average car on the same or similar route from a given starting point to a destination.

In the case of the compared journeys, indirect emissions are also included in the calculation (related to the vehicles operation and fuel production).
