Opatov becomes the Prague Metro’s 45th Barrier-Free Station

After a year of construction work, the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has completed the modernization of Opatov station on line C, with its grand opening on Wednesday, 16 December 2020.

As part of this investment project, DPP also built a bank of elevators from the platform to the bus stops on the eastern side of Chilská Street, making Opatov the 45th fully barrier-free station in the Prague underground.

Opatov is also the first station whose platform and vestibule are entirely lit with energy-saving LED lamps. The final step in the modernization of Opatov was to equip the station and adjacent tunnels with LTE and 5G networks of all wireless operators. 

This upgrading of the Opatov station represents a total investment of almost 300 million Czech crowns, a portion of which has come from the European Structural and Investment Funds.

The Opatov station modernization in numbers:

  • 104 km of cables (electrical, data, communication, etc.)
  • 24 km of cable channels
  • 62 switchboards
  • 1,027 original fluorescent fixtures replaced with new LED ones
  • 21 new air-handling units (including 2 large volume fans)
  • almost 1 km of new air ducts
  • 2 new elevators
