Large-Scale Murals to be Added to Several Stations

14. 10. 2020

The building containing the emergency exit from the Opatov metro station is to be decorated with a new large mural entitled “Flora and Fauna” by the artist Ondřej Vyhnánek. His design was the winner in the online competition (public survey) conducted by the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) and the City District of Prague 11.

A total of 1,491 people participated in the survey with the winning proposal receiving 509 votes.

The winner received more than one-third of all votes cast. Approximately 110 liters of special mural paint (primary colors: gray, green, orange, red and white) will be needed to complete the mural. There will also be other complementary colors and hundreds of aerosol paints in various shades.

The project is expected to start in the last week of October and continue for about a month (until the end of November), depending on the weather. Current plans are to have DPP unveil the finished mural at the time of the re-opening of the newly remodeled Opatov station with its new elevators.

There will also soon be three other new large murals enhancing our public transportation system (at the Bořislavka and Nové Butovice metro stations and the Spořilov bus stop). The selected artists were the winners in the MuralArtUM 2020 project competition.

  • The painter Veronika Zapletalová will create the mural at the Bořislavka station.
  • In Nové Butovice, a graffiti art mural based on a city theme will be coming from an artist using the pseudonym Zebone.
  • At the Spořilov bus stop, passengers will get to enjoy looking at a new work from the artists Karolína Vintrová and Petr Dromorád.
